Chesterfield County 

Chesterfield County is located south of Richmond and its borders are primarily defined by the James River to the north and the Appomattox River to the south. Its county seat is Chesterfield Court House. Chesterfield County was formed in 1749 from parts of Henrico County.

2019 population is 352,802

Hanover County 

Hanover County borders Richmond to the north along Interstate 64 and is part of the Greater Richmond region.  The county was founded in 1720.

The population in 2019 was 107,766.

Henrico County

Henrico County wraps around the City of Richmond to the north and east sides.  Founded in 1634, it is one of the largest counties in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Population in 2019 was 330,818

New Kent County

New Kent County is east of Richmond and is still considered part of the Greater Richmond Region. New Kent was founded in 1654.

The 2019 population was 23,091.

City of Richmond

Richmond is the capital of Virginia and is among America’s oldest major cities. The city is steeped in history from the Civil War with neighborhoods known for Federal-style mansions and interesting colonial architecture, through modern city features.

Population in 2017 was 227,032
